mFriday, a Mobile Web Lab in collaboration with the University Information Technology Services (UITS) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) hosted a Social Digital Media Symposium on Monday February 13th, 2012 at the KNUST ICT Training Centre.
During this 2-hour workshop, participants were taught the basics of Personal branding online, how to leverage your Social channels such Twitter, Linkedin, About.me to increase your network power and access to job markets. The seminar was attended by over 100 participants who are students of KNUST.
The resource person, Rebecca Peel is an International Social Media Strategist. Originally from Vancouver Canada, Rebecca has worked on Digital Media strategies and online movement building in the private and public sector.
She is currently working on Agribusiness and Entrepreneurship Curriculum Development here in Ghana as well as leading the Social media team for We Canada, the Canadian coalition of civil society for the United Nations 2012 Earth Summit.
Participants were first made to create twitter, LinkedIn, Hootsuite and other related accounts. They were then taken through the nitty-gritty of personal branding online, personal management online and twitter basics.
