MLB free agents 2016: Alex Gordon turns down player option with Royals

He strained hisleft groin while chasing down a fly ball in July.The three-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glove Award winnerwill be a hot commodity this winter. While he doesturn 32 in February, Gordon is still considered an elite outfielddefender. He was tied for 29th among major league outfielders last seasonwith seven defensive runs saved, according to Fangraphs.He has a career slash line of .269/.348/.435 and 134 home runs with 523RBIs.CBS Sportsreports that the Cubs, White Sox, Orioles and Astros are among the teamsinterested inGordon.The Royals also announcedWednesday that they had declined topickup the mutual options on pitcher Jeremy Guthrie and outfielder Alex Rios.
